Drop The Charges

I am a resident of [CITY], writing to demand that you use your power as District Attorney to drop all charges against the people of conscience who protested the ongoing genocide of Palestinians - both on April 15th on the Golden Gate Bridge, and on June 3 at the Israeli Consulate.

It is unconscionable that you are pursuing felony conspiracy charges and 38 counts of false imprisonment against Golden Gate protestors - who were speaking out against 7 months of brutal genocide, funded and supported by the US. Likewise, the protesters at the Israeli Consulate were responding to Israel’s bombardment of Palestinians sheltering in tents in so-called “safe zones” with a series of 2,000 lb, US-made bombs.

In July 2024, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s occupation of Gaza and the West bank is illegal and amounts to apartheid. While that decision came after these protests, the conditions have been clear for years, and certainly since the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The Golden Gate 26 and Consulate 70 are among millions across the world who have been unwilling to sit idly by as we witness genocide livestreamed onto our phones, and your politicized decisions to prosecute them with trumped up charges is both disappointing and disturbing.

San Francisco passed a city resolution in support of a ceasefire. The city has a long and proud legacy of progressive activism, and this moment is no different. The targeted political repression of activists is a shameful choice that will divert much needed public funds from San Franciscans who struggle to find safety and shelter amidst a crisis of severe housing and income inequality in our city. Prosecuting the Golden Gate 26 and Consulate 70 could cost the city tens of thousands of dollars per hearing: a truly unacceptable drain on our city's resources.

I will be watching these cases closely, as will countless people across San Francisco and the entire world. I am firmly in support of the protestors and sincerely hope that your office will drop these unjust and excessive charges immediately.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

CALL SCRIPT

Hi, my name is _______ and I am a resident of _______, calling to demand that DA Jenkins drop the charges against the Golden Gate 26 and the Consulate 70. It is unconscionable that the DA’s office would use much-needed city resources to intimidate activists while we have a severe housing and income inequality crisis of our own. The majority of people in San Francisco, the US, and the world agree that Israel’s genocide against Palestinians must stop. Drop the charges against people of conscience now. Thank you.
